Today marks the nth time I have put on the Fashion Assistant hat to run around the city picking up and returning clothes. Not that I'm complaining, really, because I know it's all part of the job-what with the steaming, going on coffee runs and what have you. So why am I blogging about it? I guess I was just reminded of the first time I picked up the book THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. I remember reading it back in High School thinking: "Damn, I wonder if I'll end up like Emily or Andy?"

| Emily vs Andy on The Devil Wears Prada |
Going back to the question I asked way back when, I guess I can say that I am in most ways Andy Sachs. Why? Let me explain. Currently, I like to say that I have two jobs-my real job as the magazine's Staff Writer, as well as my post as the unofficial/temp Fashion Assistant (because people can't seem to stop resigning from this post). Because I shift between two positions, I tend to be all over the place: If one day you see me at my desk writing, you will probably find me in a mall the next day with a ton of paper bags in tow. If there's one thing you need to know about this industry, it's that multi-tasking is a skill you MUST posses. And yes, I say that with much conviction too.

| If you must know, heavy lifting is all part of the job description |
Though I don't have an editor that asks for the latest Harry Potter manuscript or asks me to drive her stick shift convertible to pick up her laundry, my job entails of tasks that require stamina, quick wit, multi-tasking, and a lot of heavy lifting, all of which I guess puts me on the same page as Andy, one way or the other.
So am I tired? Yes. Am I having fun? Yes. Am I ready to throw my phone dramatically into a fountain? No. I may be tired, over extended and lacking in sleep, but I am not ready to throw in the towel just yet.I guess after a year and 13 days into this business you learn to see things in a whole new light and you learn to be more patient, which I guess is the most important lesson learned in this entire equation, really.
And with that I say, belated happy anniversary to my first job! May I have many many more :)
xx,
Ri.
